Growing Climate Resilient Coral
Phu Quoc is known as a tropical getaway of pristine white sand, crystal beaches, quaint fishing villages and home to over a thousand coral reefs. Due to climate change, worldwide high-water temperature and over exploitation of resources in recent years, coral bleaching is taking place, threatening the global marine ecosystems, with particular emphasis on coral reefs.

Despite of the significance of coral reefs, climate change and rising sea temperatures are causing coral reefs to bleach, or even to deteriorate.
Coral reefs are not only a beautiful sight to behold while snorkeling and diving – they are essential to the health of the underwater eco-system and a home for millions of species of marine life, but they also support healthy ocean food webs, and protect our coastlines. Despite their significance, climate change and rising sea temperatures are causing coral reefs to bleach. In addition to losing their vibrant colors, bleaching can cause coral to deteriorate.

Join a Coral Gardening Experience
In keeping with JW Marriott's commitment to sustainability, we collaborate with Coral Reef Vietnam to bring guests involved in coral-fragment activity and enhance the once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Embark on a journey with a lecture on coral ecology in our Marine Biologist class with the resort’s sustainability and experience team, guests have an opportunity to become “reef guardians" to preserve the ocean’s wide variety of coral reefs by swimming over and get hands-on cultivation experience coral for restoration at the eco coral farm by JW.
By sponsoring their very own dedicated frame and attaching small fragments of corals onto a custom frame, placing it in the bay, and leaving the coral grow and mature into new colonies. Our team regularly monitors the growth of each coral frame and posts update online, so guests can follow the growth of their corals from home. Guests will also receive photo updates every 03 - 06 months as the coral matures and flourishes over time.

Boosting Reef Habitats with New Coral Farm
The coral-fragment plantation activity offers guests a hands-on experience, while making a long-lasting impact by helping promote reef habitats and generate new coral.
Guests will leave with a deeper understanding and appreciation for coral and marine conservation, knowing that by increasing reef habitats to grow new coral, they have left the reef in a better state than they found it.
The maritime habitat will be improved, and the number of fish species and marine life in the surrounding areas will rise. The corals begin to sprout new branches and fish begin to return within approximately 06 months of being attached to the frames. It grows into a tiny reef in about three years, eventually growing onto the natural reef substrate.
