Protecting the Gold Coast Seaway: Why it Matters

Human Impacts on Gold Coast Seaway Ecosystem

Led by local marine expert and conservationist, Ian Banks, discover the natural wonders of the Gold Coast Seaway and learn about the positive and negative impacts humans are having on these fragile ecosystems.

The Gold Coast Seaway not only acts as the main navigational entrance to the Broadwater and Nerang River from the Pacific Ocean, it is also home to over 470 species of fish and marine life.  These resilient species have learnt to co-exist with the boat traffic that traverses the Seaway; at the same time they have become victim to debris that can be seen littering the Seaway shores.  As neighbours of the Gold Coast Seaway our resort understands it has a responsibility to protect the local environment and marine life, and strives to contribute to the ongoing conservation of this unique landscape.

Gold Coast Seaway Conservation Experience with Ian Banks

Conserve and Contribute to the Gold Coast Seaway Marine Environment

In partnership with local marine expert and conservationist Ian Banks, be introduced to the unique marine environment of the Gold Coast Seaway and explore the underwater world that exists at the resort’s doorstep.

Guests are invited to firstly participate in Ian Banks’ Presentation at the resort, learning about the diverse and rich marine landscape that surrounds Sheraton Grand Mirage here on The Spit.  Following the Presentation guests will depart Marina Mirage and travel via boat to a snorkel site to experience and explore first-hand the marine environment.   Throughout the snorkeling experience Ian will educate guests about the marine life, and in gathering debris along the way, guests will contribute to conserving this unique sanctuary, leaving the landscape in a pristine condition for the marine life to continue thriving.
