With over 20 years of experience, Red Seal Chef Eugene Hicks is a welcome addition to the Delta Hotels by Marriott Calgary Downtown. Having worked at a winery, a yacht club and one of the top hotels in Kelowna, Chef Eugene understands the importance of locally sourced ingredients when preparing a stellar menu.
With his experience serving up to 2,000 guests at once, Chef is well-versed in delivering top-tier dining while maintaining speed and efficiency. "We are extremely excited to bring Chef Eugene aboard," says Richard Main, the General Manager at the Delta by Marriott, Calgary Downtown. "Our restaurant was named after David Thompson and his love for exploration, similarly, Chef Eugene possesses this passion when it comes to fresh ingredients, local vendors and new recipes."
Since moving to Calgary, Chef Eugene has enjoyed exploring and discovering all the amazing food elements the city has to offer. Now, he looks forward to finding a way to integrate his enthusiasm for South American cuisine with his admiration for fresh Albertan ingredients. Eugene finds inspiration from the words of Wolfgang Puck, "cooking is an expression of the land where you are and the culture of that place."
With over 10 years of experience, Nica has expanded her knowledge and ideas on how to be innovative and creative. She has embraced change gracefully and continues to adapt to industry trends. Her love and passion for travel is the true inspiration behind her creativity. Trying local foods, visiting art galleries and interacting with locals is what allows her to reinvent and execute unique events. Nica Alcantara is an optimist who only sees the good in people. No matter the position she has held at her workplace, Nica has exhibited nothing but professionalism and respect for her peers and clients.
Born and raised in Kenya, Keshvi moved to Canada in 2013 to pursue her education in Hospitality, Tourism and Event Management. She has since worked in the Hospitality sector and specializes in bringing her knowledge and understanding of operations, her sharp eye for detail, along with her passion and creativity to all of her customer's events.
Keshvi has managed multiple catering teams at various hotels, she has developed menus and trained staff in food styling. Keshvi has a natural approach and style and has successfully hosted a variety of corporate and social events. Keshvi has a passion for travel and trying new foods, especially discovering vegetarian restaurants globally that she enjoys blogging about.
Alexandra (Alex) has spent most of her life in Calgary where she completed her diploma is Hospitality Management. Following graduation Alexandra made a move to beautiful Vancouver BC where she was a part of the opening team of the JW Marriott Parq Vancouver and DOUGLAS Autograph collection Hotel. She started as a Event Coordinator but quickly found her passion for Sales and Marketing! An exciting role as Sales Executive brought her back to Calgary in 2020.
Alexandra grew up surrounded by the Marriott Culture and Values as her father worked for Marriott for 25 years. Admiring the Marriott way, she decided to join in his Hospitality footsteps!
Alexandra is eager to get back to connecting and working with her clients after having her first son. In her free time you will find her spending time with her family, travelling to Mexico to see extended family and baking!
Alexandra is responsible for the Sports and Social Market and is here to help curate memorable events!
Kassandra (‘Kass') recently moved to Calgary with her fiancée and two young children from Ontario, where she was working remotely for Delta. She graduated from College with a diploma in Travel & Tourism; Specialized Services. After graduation, Kassandra started her first job in hotels as a Reservation Agent, where she found her passion for groups. Shortly after, she ended up going into sales and eventually landed working at Marriott Canadian Sales Office.
Kass' family has always been very immersed in the hospitality industry, as her mother and step-father both worked in hotel sales since she was a child. Her father also lived all over the world, so she grew up travelling abroad.
Since day 1, Kass has had a huge focus on building relationships and providing excellent customer service. Kass really enjoys spending time with her children and partner outdoors, whether it be skiing, skating, hiking, or travelling. She looks forward to getting to know the city and learning more of what Alberta has to offer. Kassandra is responsible for contracting large group events and room blocks.
Franziska (‘Franzi') grew up in Germany, in a small village amidst the Alps, home to the largest ski resort in the country. Because of this, Franzi knew at a young age that she wanted to be in the tourism and hospitality industry. Franziska moved to Canada in 2021 after finishing her bachelor's degree, to pursue this dream.
At a very prestigious hotel in BC, Franzi started at the front desk before transiting into events. She was tasked with aiding clients from day one of the planning stage, through to the post-event communication. She has executed several successful corporate events with great pleasure and knew that attaining a position in sales was her next goal. As she learned more about Canada, particularly Western Canada, she was intrigued by and drawn to, the youthful spirit and energy as well as the sense of community that Calgary offers. In her free time Franziska enjoys skiing, wake surfing and traveling abroad.
Franziska is responsible for contracting all large corporate events at the hotel ensuring a smooth process right from the start.
