Protecting Our Planet
We care about preserving our environment, and our surrounding precinct strives to be one of the city’s most sustainable urban communities. Standing at the center of Chippendale Green is the wind-powered kinetic sculpture Halo, designed by Jennifer Turpin and Michaelie Crawford. Consisting of a tapered yellow carbon fiber ring balanced on a silver arm from a tall, tilted silver mast, the sculpture was inspired by Central Park’s brewery heritage. It interacts with nature by moving with the wind.

Explore locations including Myrtle Street, Balfour Street, Beaumont Street, Rose Street, Grafton, and Teggs Lanes, to name a few. Many of Chippendale’s buildings are heritage-listed, including the Mortuary Station. Constructed in 1869 in Gothic revival style, it was the terminal for the mortuary train to Sydney’s Rookwood cemetery. Today it offers a fascinating snapshot into Sydney’s unique heritage.

Central Park has its own Central Thermal Plant (CTP) and tri-generation power for heating and cooling the Central Park precinct. It also features its own water recycling factory, collecting rainwater, black water, and grey water for treatment and reuse in laundries, toilets, and gardens.
